2011 round-up and thank you

We'd like to thank each and every one of you for your support throughout 2011, and particularly during this last term, in which we have had a hectic but fantastic series of PTA events and activities.

We started the term with the launch of the new school, including the hot and sticky ceilidh which was a great way to celebrate our new building.  Before we knew it, October was upon us, and we held a hugely successful spooky disco involving the usual mix of music, tattoos, food and crazy outfits.  As a new initiative this year, we worked with staff to run an Arts Christmas Card project, in which our children designed their own cards.  This went really well also and we hope you have been able to enjoy using your personalised cards.

Our Christmas Fair was a momentus occasion as the first Christmas Fair we have held in a few years, and of course the first in our new school.  It was lovely to see so many people there and enjoying the diverse stalls and attractions; we were very pleased that in addition to it being a great community event, we raised almost £3,000 - so particular thanks to everyone who helped and supported that day.  Finally, some of our children came along to a Cinema Night at school recently, giving them the chance to see some favourite films and allowing parents an extra hour or two for Christmas preparations.  In between all these events, we have had a series of cake stalls run by the different year groups, giving us many gluttonous Fridays and a chance to get baking!

All in all, it is not surprising that this term has flown by!  In total, these events and activities have raised over £5,500 for school funds, which is an incredible achievement.  Importantly, we hope you have also had the opportunity to meet and socialise with others in the school community, as it is so difficult to do that generally during the week.

So - thank you all once again for all your support - we couldn't do it without you.  Remember, we always welcome feedback, ideas or volunteers to run other events, so do get in touch at any time via the website, email, Facebook or by leaving a letter for the PTA committee with the school office.

The PTA has supported a great deal of investment in our new school, and this has included:

  • Parentmail and PTA website maintenance and hosting: £1,500
  • Interactive whiteboards for classrooms: £8,625
  • Community play equipment for all years: £6,000

Regular, core investments also include:

  • School fund (£900 per annum):
    • Contributions to school trips to meet shortfall from parents
    • Team sports kits and  entrance fees for tournaments
  • Computer equipment rental (approximately £5,700 per annum)
Cake stall profits are paid back to the year group that held each cake stall - so to date this year, £480.24 has been paid to year group teachers to spend at their discretion to support their class.
